Hurricane Helene Relief Effort
Hurricane Relief for Western North Carolina
Racing for ALS is thrilled to announce that we have raised over $45,000 by 152 individuals over our MightyCause fund and cash donations to go towards the Hurricane Relief Fund. In addition, we acquired three vehicles, approximately worth $25,000. As per our 100% donation guarantee, we have actually spent more on supplies that were all delivered to Western North Carolina via our race haulers than the total donations received. From the multiple donation drives, shopping, and automobile donations to date, we would we have delivered over $100,000 in supplies via more than 15 separate trips to those in need in Western North Carolina to help with their recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene.
We have so many people and organizations to thank for supporting us, and wanted to do so below:
Thank you to the: United Church of Apex, Cars & Coffee of the Upstate, Cars and Coffee Morrisville, Inc , Wilmington Hammerheads, Charlotte Custom Stone, South End Capital, Grassroots Magazine for your help in organizing supply drives that were tied to the specific needs of the areas we were delivering to over the month after the storm.
To the local business in the Western North Carolina Mountains, Jimmy & Jean’s Family Entertainment and Arcade, Appalachian Tool and Machine, Inc, in Swannanoa who set aside their normal work to become beacons of generosity for your regions as they converted into distribution hubs of much needed supplies for everyone in the area.
To the following individuals who went over and above to make all of this happen: Rob Wilmoth, Marian Bradley, Amy Brown, Shayna Ricker, Ryan Lohrman, Stephen Miller, Marya Lloyd, Dan and Tim Meyer, Justin and Jewel LaClair, Ryan Cheek Racing, Kyle Quattromani, Kevin Arndt, Rob Pyrock, Joe Hardiston, Eric Garrison, Doug Hilliard, Steven Kyle, Andrew Biesemeier, Norm Adams, and Scott Weatherford.
We would also like to thank our contacts in Spruce Pine that gave us up to date reports on what specific towns needed, Todd Faw and his coworker Tony. These two individuals have been on scene in Lenior, Spruce Pine, and many other counties helping every day since the beginning. Thank you for sacrificing time with your loved ones to help others.
As many of you know, reports were coming in while Dave's Race 6 was happening. We would like to thank our sponsor MongoDB and the Racing for ALS participants for donating their supplies to the first run for the relief effort.
As we transition away from our direct fundraising and delivery efforts for now, we would encourage you to continue supporting Western North Carolina by donating to the following funds that we can verify are being run by locals on the ground who have done a remarkable job throughout this entire crisis:
Valley Hope Foundation - https://www.valleyhopefoundation.org/
Jimmy & Jean’s Family Entertainment and Arcade – They have a charity that was collecting for them and was going to match the donations up to $250k: https://www.etix.com/ticket/d/990/the-acorn-center.jsp
Thank you all again for going over and above the call of duty to help our neighbors in Western North Carolina in their time of need during the immediate aftermath of the storm, and please remember that their needs will continue into the future; so your continued support is greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day!
